Goal / Teaching Aim Demonstration wave propagation in a plasma for different modes or polarisations. Insights into the dielectric tensor
Equipment Vacuum vessel with ionized plasma, magnetic field coils and microwave receiver and transmitter
Experiment Changing polarisation, magnetic field strength and plasma density and observe the change in wave propagation. Relate this to the Appleton Hartree dispersion relation
Fusion Relevance Wave propagation is basic for wave heating, wave access and wave diagnostics: ICRH, ECRH, ECE, Reflectrometry etc
